In Memoriam - Sheila Loyd

Time to remember another Wilson grad with the passing of Sheila Loyd. She is remembered at Wilson as a really nice person, but shy, and very well liked and popular at school. She was always neat and clean, immaculate in her appearance. As a Wilson student, Sheila was very interested in sewing and sewed her own clothes. Her daughter Melissa still treasures some of the pieces that Sheila created. Sheila also enjoyed bowling which makes sense since her parents owned a bowling alley.

The memorial service for Sheila will be this Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 at 12:10 pm  at St Leo's Parish in Tacoma, WA.

In Memoriam - Tom Newman

One of our Wilson 65' Alumni has passed away, Thomas Newman. A true Tacoma native, he was born in Tacoma and lived here all his life. His twin brother John Newman was also in our class.

As a Wilson student, Tom loved fishing and working on his cars down at Owen's Beach in Pt. Defiance. After graduation, Tom served in Vietnam as did his brother. He continued fishing and boating throughout his life and was a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club. Tom's passion for working on his own cars led him to enjoy rebuilding vintage cars all his life.

You can read more about Tom's life at his online obituary.

Wilson Guys and Gals Luncheon

Sandy and Gay arranged a 2nd, post-reunion luncheon, this one with the guys and gals. This get-together was also at Knapp's Restaurant in Tacoma. It was a special time with fun, laughter and some great camaraderie. We truly hope you are able to join us next time.

Now the esoteric Gary Johnson has a few thoughts about the event:

Wednesday last (February 3) a group met for lunch at Knapps Restaurant in the Proctor district. This periodic meet and greet was attended by a stellar cast of “Bavishing Reauties” and two slothful guys who were remarkably obtuse. Nonetheless, neither Pete nor I tumbled to the possibility that we may be ill equipped to join this astute collection. Manfully we refused to acknowledge that we had not been the intended recipients of the email.

Regardless of any failure of social graces or Faux Pas, we carried on with a remarkable luncheon session. I enjoyed hearing the tales of post reunion events and adventures. Seems like everyone (except me) had the time and stories that make these gatherings so enjoyable. Next time they meet, I intend to join in again That is unless we are required to wear pantyhose for admission….I am not so sure that presents such a problem for Pete.

Later….is keel-hauling dangerous? Just a rumor I heard.

In Memoriam - Maryann Batt Reinert

Maryann Batt Reinert was born in Tacoma on April 17, 1947 and passed away on January 20, 2016, after a heroic battle with Huntington's disease.

Maryann graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965, where she was very active.  She was in Honor Society, a member of Varja (Wilson's Girl's Honorary Service Organization), a member of French Club, and the Circulation Manager on the staff of Nova, Wilson's yearbook. Maryann starred as Nancy Gage in Wilson's courtroom drama, "The Trial of Nancy Gage". She also graduated from Wilson with honors. I spoke with several Wilson classmates who knew her and we all agreed that she was really nice, very sweet and polite, intelligent and creative.

Maryann went to the University of Oregon for one year, and then transferred to the University of Washington. She later finished college at Pacific Lutheran University, and then worked at the Dept. of Social & Health Services.

Maryann's highest calling was that of wife and mother. She leaves behind her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Robert, daughter Jennifer and son Mitchell.

She will be missed by many!
